Flip Flops + Legwarmers

19 Mar

(I highly recommend NOT doing this – as you should scrunch the legwarmers when pairing with flip flops).

I recently came across and article (not entirely sure how; just clicking all over the place) and came across a sort of new fashion/trend: Wearing flip flops with legwarmers.

Not going to lie, I became immediately intrigued. Something so simple, and yet, I never thought of it before. To me, it’s much cooler than the socks + sandals (that’s just a big NO-NO). I just find it interesting and intriguing. I did see some comments about the debate – if you wear flip flops because it’s hot why are you wearing legwarmers (if it’s for cold weather). TO BE STYLISH OF COURSE!

I know many of you are going to easily dismiss it, I mean, look how easily I dismissed the sock + sandals combo. But I’m sticking behind this one. I will be trying this. I owe tons of flip flops (and tons is an understatement), and I own a few pairs of legwarmers (they are perfect for nighttime cottage weather).

I’m trying to think of combinations. I have dark grey + black (thick) striped legwarmers, pairing them with yellow flip flops might be too much, but I think a black pair might work well. Then again, I will be daring, and wearing either my yellow OR orange! Why not be colourful? It’s summertime! Time to be bright, sunny and cheerful 🙂

I also think it would be interesting to wear this combo and once in public, see the reactions form people AND somehow manage to catch their attention and ask them what they’re staring at 😉

So I leave you with photos, and you be the judge.

Like most of you, we head on over to the Niagara Falls / Buffalo area for some shopping 🙂 We used to go all the time, but then it became repetitive.. and everything looked the same. So we barely go now. Perhaps we were stuck in the ideal that because it says SALE, we somehow forget about the US / CAN money conversion and automatically think everything over there is cheaper.

That’s my theory. Sometimes you’re actually paying more for the same thing.. plus, all that gas your car uses to drive there? ‘Tsk.

Not to say there aren’t sales… because there are. So keep a watchful eye, and always bring a calculator!

My favourite designer Kate Spade now has a store, it’s always the first store I enter as well, and can actually spend quite a while in there. I picked up almost every bag, and came across this beauty. It actually was on sale, but a good sale.

You see, here in Toronto, this bag would probably be marked up somewhere around $350+.. but it was retailed in Buffalo for just over $400 US. It was marked down to $200, and obviously, bought by me 🙂

The perfect summer bag. Bright summer colours and big enough inside to fit all my stuff.

It came in a few colours, metallic gold (yikes), a kind of weird green (nice, but definitely weird) and orange (my favourite). The perfect beach/pool bag, or just to grab coffee with friends.

PRICE: $200

Next was Ralph Lauren. POLO has had these flip flops (also in white + black horse) for a couple years now. My size was never available.. either the really big sizes were left, or the really small sizes. Thankfully it was my lucky day and my size 8 was there.

PRICE: $45

Summer is almost here….

1 Feb

It’s Sunday, I have time to kill, what do I do? GO SHOPPING of course. So I set out with my sister in -15 degree weather and headed to Yorkville (Bay/Bloor area). My main goal

Miss Marc ♥’s Canada shirt. Limited-edition tee sold at Holt Renfrew has been available since January 25th. A tee featuring Mr and Miss. Marc on a ski lift is available in white and light grey (XS-L). I wasn’t convinced. The advertising (an email from Holt Renfrew about new and upcoming products) was worded that, at least to me, seemed like it was a collection of Miss Marc ♥’s Canada line.

It was only the tee. I was not amused. Nor was I convinced. The tee is definitely not for winter wear, and I would assume in highly AC houses in the summer, it wouldn’t work either.

The SA was her charming self (in case you didn’t know, they’re on commission), telling me how fabulous the tee is, and that they can’t keep them on the shelf. So I thought, A) I could be a bitch and tell her how wrong she is, or B) just smile and walk away.

And as I started to walk away she was telling me and my sister that it’s the perfect gift because it comes in a Marc by Marc Jacobs gift box! Oo, how convincing. A $65 dollar box! It seemed others were not amused by Marc’s Canadian love, because limited edition would mean, whatever is on that table is it.. and by the looks of it, I would say almost every single one is still sitting there. I think I’ll stick to his bags.

Which leads us to the second floor: SHOES. And quickly I notice, those big furry snow trekking boots are on one table in the far corner, and I am surrounded by open toe flats, strappy sandals and my personal obsession (besides Starbucks)… FLIP FLOPS.

As I peered over the $500 shoes, and a lot of tackiness that comes with a lot of designers, I hit the Marc Jacobs section. I was drawn to these:

They come in black + white, blue, pink and white. I went with the classic black + white. How cute is this little bird?

They don’t come in half-sizes. And because designer shoes are always made for those tiny feet, I knew a size 8 wouldn’t cut it. But the SA was nice, and he brought me out a size 8 and a size 9. The 9 was pretty good, the flip flop was comfy, and not uncomfortable at all. Like many flip flops, you might as well go bare-foot, but these were perfect. Well… the size 9 wasn’t really cutting it either. Weird, I know, but when I told him “perhaps a 10 would be better…” It felt like I fell from a 50-story building. Thankfully he was awesome and just said, “it’s just a number.”

So the 10 was brought out. And voila. I’m ready for summer.
